Hartselle High School will be well represented at the 2016 State Track and Field Meet in Gulf Shores this week as 20 track and field team members will be competing for team and individual honors in 17 Class 6A events.

The team left Hartselle by bus Tuesday at noon and is scheduled to return Sunday. Preliminary competition will take place Thursday and Friday and individual and team championships will be determined on Saturday.

Hartselle team members qualified for state in sectional competition, which was conducted in Scottsboro last weekend. Three team members–Abigail Davis, Grant Jared and Megan Zuck–finished among the top 10 competitors at the meet.

“I’m pleased that we had 20 members of our team move on to the state meet,” said second year head coach Nick Collier. “Last year, we had 19. I think they may have held back a little bit and I’m anxious to see how well they can perform against the best in the state.”

“I can say we peaked at the right time,” he added. “With only a few seniors on the team, I felt we did pretty well at sectionals.”

Davis returns to the state meet after winning all-state honors in the 3200-meter run in 2015.

Team members and the events they will compete in at state are listed as follows:

Shanna Alexander, 4×100 and 4×400 runs; Timmy Ammons, 4×400 run; Jacobi Brewer, 4×400 run; Chandler Briggs, 4×400 run; Malachi Compton, 4×400 run; Leiara Cottingham, 4×800 run; Abigail Davis, 800, 1600, 3200 and 4×800 runs;  Tyler Dolbeer, 4×800 run; Zane Green, 400, 4×100 and 4×400 runs; Macie Holder, 800, 4×800 runs; Grant Jared, triple jump and high jump; Carson Levario-Slaten, 3200, 4×800 runs; Caleb Owens, 4×400 run; Billie Shelton, 100 and 300 hurdles; Nic Steele, 100. 200 and 4×100 runs; Hannah Wiley, 4×400, 4×800 and 4×100 runs; Tykeem Williams, 4×800 run; Zack Wright, 4×800 run; Megan Zuck, triple jump, javelin, 4×100 and 4×400 runs; Natalie Zuck, 4×100, 4×400 runs.
