Ruth Chasteen Carter Brinker

January 20, 2016

A celebration of life service for Ruth Chasteen Carter Brinker, 84, of Hoover, will be Sat., Jan. 30, at 11 a.m. at Riverchase United Methodist Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to service.

A graveside service will follow at 3 p.m. at Salem United Methodist Cemetery.

Mrs. Brinker died peacefully with family at her bedside Wed., Jan. 20. She was born June 13, 1931, to Grady and Auline Vest Chasteen in Hartselle. She was a gentle soul and a true southern lady. She was known by friends and family as “Oofie,” and they were very important to her. A better friend could never be found. Strong in her faith, she was a member of Riverchase United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 35 years, Charlie Brinker; and a brother, Orval Chasteen.

She is survived by a daughter, Jeanette Moore (Todd) of Hoover; a son, Len Carter (Liz) of Illinois; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and a fifth due later this year; two brothers, Benard Chasteen and Tommy Charteen, both of Hartselle; many friends and “adopted” kids; and by a special friend, Janell Palmer.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Riverchase U.M.C. building or organ funds.
