The Danville Hawks (5-5) used a strong running game to close out the 2015 high school football season with a 45-35 victory over the Falkville Blue Devils (8-2).  The Hawks running game was led by Jacob Morehead (2 TDs), Jackson Locklear (2 TDs), Landon Tidwell (1 TD) and Ryan Self (1 TD).  Logan Jaep added a field goal for the Hawks.

While Danville scored on the ground, the Blue Devils took to the air as QB Ryan Sullivan threw for three TDs while he and Allen Vinson each ran for a score.

Danville opened the game strong, scoring on its first two possessions to take a 10-0 lead midway through the first period. Locklear scored on an 8-yard run and Jaep added a 27-yard field goal.  Jaep’s kick came three plays after the Hawks blocked a Falkville punt giving Danville a 1st and ten at the Blue Devil 15.

Falkville got its first touchdown when Sullivan threw a 35-yard pass to Terry Dove.

Danville would answer the Blue Devil score, going 64 yards in six plays with Self getting the TD on a 6-yard run.  Jaep added the PAT and the Hawks led 17-7 early in quarter number 2.  Tidwell had two big plays in the drive.  On 2nd-and-5 from the Danville 41 he hooked up with Locklear for a gain of 34-yards.  On the next play, Tidwell ran for a first down to set up the Hawk touchdown.

The Blue Devils would score on their next two possessions to take a 20-17 lead.  Sullivan ran in from the Danville 2 and he then hooked up with Zachary Brown for a 66-yard score.

The Hawk defense set up the final score of the 1st half when Brandon McCormick intercepted a Blue Devil pass to give Danville the ball deep in Falkville territory.  Morehead gave the Hawks the lead on a 21-yard run.

Falkville took the 2nd half kick and drove 68 yards to retake the lead on an 11-yard run by Vinson.  Danville would take the lead for good, scoring on its next two possessions.  Morehead got the first score on a 6-yard run while Tidwell kept the ball and scored from 12-yards out to give the Hawks a 38-27 lead. Tidwell’s score was set up by three big plays involving Jackson Locklear.  The first was a 24-yard pass to Locklear.  Two plays later Tidwell and Locklear connected for a 12-yard pass and Locklear ran for 24 yards on the next play. Falkville cut the lead to 3 late in the 3rd on Sullivan’s final touchdown pass of the evening.  The only score of the final period came when Locklear scored on a 6-yard run to give Danville its final margin.

At halftime, Danville sophomore Kane Hogan was honored by Sports Illustrated.  Hogan, who was diagnosed with leukemia earlier this year, was selected as Sport’s Illustrated September Athlete of the Month.  Former Alabama QB John Parker Wilson joined officials from Sports Illustrated and the U.S. Marine Corps, in presenting Hogan the award.
