As part of the Great American Bus Tour over 575 students from Crestline Elementary, Barkley Bridge Elementary, F.E. Burleson Elementary, and Hartselle Intermediate School participated in the Next Great Americans Kickoff for the Super Citizen Program.

For the next 8-10 weeks they will be learning important lessons in civics, financial literacy, character development, and career readiness, alongside the Great American Story program.

During the kickoff held  Fri., Sept. 4, Mr. Palmer and Libby Liberty (the green lady herself) led the kids in a pep-rally like experience where she gets the kids excited about starting the Super Citizen Program. Libby Liberty brings history to life and she teaches the students about her history and her role as the symbol of hope in our country. Libby lead the children in patriotic songs as each student waved flags and wore their own statue of liberty crown.

Nucor Steel of Decatur helped to sponsor the event and bring the experience to the Hartselle students. The crowd was excited and joined in as Libby quizzed them on where she lived and how she came to be in America.

The upbeat program, filled with today’s technology kept the attention of all of the students attending the presentations.
