Local churches collect school supplies for area students

Two local churches are working to collect school supplies for students in the Hartselle and Falkville school districts.

Pine Street Independent Baptist Church will host their annual Backpack Bonanza Day on Sat., July 18, from 1-4 p.m. at South Park in Falkville. The event will include games, activities, entertainment, a Life South blood drive, food and drinks. School supplies, haircuts and slightly used clothes will be available. People may also come by to drop off school supply donations.

Last year Pine Street collected almost $3,000 worth of school supplies, allowing them to help 365 students at Falkville Elementary School. The church hopes to exceed last year’s donations in order to help more students during the 2015-2016 year.

Hartselle Chapel Church will host their second annual God’s Giveaway on Sat., July 25, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Free school supplies and clothing will be available. There will be a Life South blood drive and drawings for gift cards. The church will also sell BBQ sandwiches, baked goods and household items.

Donations for God’s Giveaway must be delivered to the church by Fri., July 24, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. For more information, call Tammy at 256-303-4480 or Teri at 256-318-3288.
