HHS wins Gulf Coast Classic

Hartselle rallied to defeat Sumiton Christian 4-2 in the finals of the Gulf Coast Classic March 25.

Sumiton Christian’s Kendall Hamm hit an RBI triple followed by Holly Murray’s RBI double by  to build a 2-0 lead.

After allowing three hits and a walk in the first inning, Jada Hayes only allowed a hit and two walks the rest of the way while collecting four strikeouts.

The Lady Tigers knotted the game up in the bottom of the third inning. Sydnee Wiley hit an RBI double to score Sara Faulk and then scored on first of Sumiton’s five errors.

In the fourth inning, Riley Corum only wanted to move Bailey Powell to second base. Three errors later, Powell scored, and Corum came home on a wild pitch for the final Hartselle run.

Besides Wiley, Faulk, Taylor Wascavage, Hope Cain, Ali Forth and Corum had the other Hartselle hits.

HHS 3, Huntsville 2

Sara Faulk drove in Mary Jane Wooley in the fourth inning to provide Hartselle with the winning run in the semifinals of the Gulf Coast Classic March 25.

Jada Hayes got the scoring started with an RBI single in the first inning. Huntsville responded with an RBI single in the second inning.

Both teams plated runs in the third inning, which included Hope Cain’s RBI single, before Hartselle took the lead for good.

Cain earned the win, allowing two unearned runs on five hits and two walks with four strikeouts.

Faulk and Hayes paced the Lady Tigers with 2-for-3 efforts. Mary Jane Wooley added a double.

HHS 2, Austin 0

Jada Hayes pitched a perfect game to lead Hartselle past Austin in the quarterfinals of the Gulf Coast Classic March 25. She finished with 10 strikeouts in six innings.

Synee Wiley, Taylor Wascavage and Hayes had the only hits for Hartselle. Wiley scored on a wild pitch in the fourth inning.

Sara Faulk hit a sacrifice ground ball to score Ali Forth for the other run.

HHS 5, North Jackson 0

Hope Cain came within a hit batter of pitching a perfect game against North Jackson in the Gulf Coast Classic March 25.

She finished with seven strikeouts while allowing no hits and walks. The Lady Tigers also committed no errors, and catcher Kaitlyn Spangler picked off the lone base runner.

Taylor Wascavage went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, a double and a solo home run.

Sydnee Wiley, Jada Hayes, Gracie Poe, Makayla Hayes, Sydney Crow and Anna Stinson all added hits. Wiley and Crow had RBIs.

HHS 2, Grissom 1

Jada Hayes scored the game-winning run in the seventh inning as Mary Jane Wooley reached on an error.

Hayes drove in the Taylor Wascavage on a single to give Hartselle a lead in the first inning. Grissom took advantage of a Hartselle error in the third inning to tie the game.

Hayes allowed one hit, a triple, but she racked up eight strikeouts.

Wascavage and Hayes had the only two hits for Hartselle. Wooley reached base twice on errors while Bailey Powell reached on an error.
