Backed by cash pledges from family and friends, Priceville Elementary School students ran, skipped, hopped and danced 30 to 35 laps at a Boosterthon Fun Run Thursday to raise money for their school.

The event was staged on the playground in front of the school with kindergarten and first graders going first at 8 a.m. Second and third graders followed 45 minutes later and fourth and fifth graders ran the last laps, beginning at 10 a.m.

As they ran, students were cheered on by Boosterthon team members Jonathan Aultman, captain, Philip McFadden, Dalton Titshaw and Mitch Hunter.

Teachers assisted by manning the water tent and marking the shirts of runners after each lap was completed. In addition, parents, grandparents and siblings surrounded the tracks, held signs and shouted encouragement.

“This is our fourth year here,” said Aultman. “We always look forward to coming back. The students are terrific and the faculty and parents do a good job supporting our program.”

He said Boosterthon’s 2013 theme is “Camp High Five.”

“Our focus has been “Turning Classmates into Friends,” he pointed out, “and our work in the classrooms has been to encourage the students to respect others, don’t bully, shout out strength, stick together and show good sportsmanship.”

“We could not be more thrilled than to have Boosterthon back to take charge of our biggest fundraiser of the year,” said principal Cherie Humphries.” “The Boosterthon team does a great job of promoting fitness, leadership and character in the classrooms as well as asconducting the fundraiser.”

She said proceeds frrm the fundraiser would go back into the classrooms to help students.
