RAGLAND – In spite of a 21-0 loss to Ragland Friday night, No. 4 Falkville still managed to finish in the spot in the Class 1A, Region 6 standings to clinch the region championship.

FHS (7-1, 6-1) didn’t suffer thanks to its non-region victory over Donoho (7-2) in week six. That win guaranteed the Blue Devils a first-round home matchup with Shoals Christian Nov. 8.

In a game of turnovers and penalties, the Purple Devils’ held FHS to just under 100 total offensive yards following big defensive stops and picking off three Falkville passes on the night.

The first big play of game came on a FHS interception by Aaron Estes, who robbed Ragland (7-1, 6-1) of a touchdown on its first attempt.

However, Ragland’s Christian Morrow and quarterback Kijana Lindsey created turmoil for the Blue Devil defense. Morrow kicked off Ragland’s scoring on a 26-yard run with 1:55 to play in the first quarter. Morrow also added the extra point.

That would be the last points for either team until the fourth quarter.

Lindsey scored on a 44-yard quarterback keeper with 9:10 to play in the game.

He then picked off a Blue Devil pass in the next drive, setting up Morrow’s seven-yard touchdown carry to seal the victory.

The Blue Devils’ loss created a three-way between FHS, Addison and Ragland. Donoho’s 49-40 win over Gaylesville (5-4) proved to be the tiebreaker.

That gave Falkville seven eligible victories of defeated opponents. Ragland and Addison’s defeated opponents victories can only total maximum of six eligible victories each.

Falkville will travel to non-region and county rival Danville on Friday for its final regular season game.
