Mitchell David Dobbs

Funeral for Chief Warrant Officer 4 (Ret.) Mitchell David Dobbs Jr., 87, of Decatur was Mon., Sept. 23, at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Brooks Barkley and Ben Hayes officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

Burial was in Herring Cemetery.

Mr. Dobbs died Fri., Sept. 20, 2013. He was born Feb. 24, 1926, in the Massey community to Mitchell David Dobbs Sr. and Mattie Garner Dobbs. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1943 and served in the Pacific Theater as a Navy corpsman attached to the U.S. Marine Corp. He also served in the U.S. Army in the Korean Conflict and the Alabama National Guard. He retired in 1986 with more than 42 years of faithful and dedicated service to the country he loved so dearly. He was an avid golfer and loved time with his family. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Decatur. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael David Dobbs.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Orr Dobbs; two sons, Danny Dobbs and Dave Dobbs; a daughter, Debbie Hood; two brothers, Dan Dobbs and Bill Dobbs, both of Hartselle; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The family expresses their appreciation to the wonderful doctor and nurses in the Cardiac Care Unit at Decatur Morgan Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project (www.woundedwarriorproject.org).
