The Spirit of America Festival will be Thur., July 4, beginning at 4 p.m. at Point Mallard Park in Decatur. Activities include a children’s bike parade, live stage entertainment, a children’s area, Boy Scout celebration arena, Spirit of America awards ceremony, Miss Point Mallard Pageant and the Spirit of America fireworks display, at 10 p.m.

The Morgan County Extension Office is hosting a Babysitting 101 class Tues., July 9, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Sparkman Civic Center. Learn the basics of babysitting, diaper changing, feeding, games to play with children and what to do in an emergency. This is not a Red Cross certification class and there is no fee. Cullman Regional Medical Center offers a two-day babysitting certification class for boys and girls ages 11–13. Lunch and snacks are provided. Sparkman Civic Center will host a night of fun and games for kids 5-12 years old during its FUN-tastic Friday, July 12 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Parents can plan a fun evening out and drop the kids off for a $10 fee. Register by July 8.
Body Quest will be Mon., July 12, through Thur., July 18, from 10 a.m. to noon at Sparkman Civic Center. Body Quest is a four-day workshop with the goal to increase fruit and vegetable consumption, make physical activity jazzy, enhance sleep, hygiene and encourage family engagement, all with the help of an Apple iPad. Cullman Regional Medical Center is having a Prepared Childbirth Class Sat., July 13, from 8 a.m. to noon. The cost is $25 per couple or $20 per couple for WomenFirst Members and free to Medicaid patients.

Hartselle Parks and Recreation is hosting Grandpa’s Got Talent July 18 at 10 a.m. at Sparkman Civic Center. We are looking for singers, storytellers, dancers, yodelers, kazoo players and any other talented guys with grandchildren. Prizes will be given and its free to sign up. The Falkville Public Library concludes the Summer Reading Program with Vulcan Materials presentation of their “Fossils” show at 2 p.m. at the Falºkville Town Hall courtroom. Participants will turn in their reading totals and prizes will be given. Youth, parents and program leaders will have a pizza party following the program.

Swimming lesson registration and pool party reservations can be made at Sparkman Civic Center, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Swimming lessons are for ages 6 months through adult. Ages 5 and under are $45 and ages 6 and above are $50. Session 1 is June 3-14, Session 2 is June 17-28, Session 3 is July 8-19 and Session 4 is July 22- Aug. 2.
Birthday party planning at Sparkman Civic Center, for a fee of $100, which includes: party room at the Sparkman Civic Center, themed invitations, themed decorations, plates, cups, napkins eating utensils, party favors, games, activities and two party coordinators. All you supply is cake and refreshments. Space is limited, so register early. All fees must be paid at least one week prior to your party. The fee is good for up to 15 children ages 5 and older, additional children will be $5 each. You may begin registering May 20, parties will begin June 3, Mon., through Fri., from 6 to 8 p.m. and Sat., from 10 a.m. to noon. No Sunday parties.

Water Aerobics- There is many advantages to water aerobics! Unlike normal aerobics, water aerobics supports the body and reduces the risk of muscle and joint injury. Water aerobics is perfect for the young and old alike. Classes will meet on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 6:50 a.m. to 7:50 a.m., beginning June 3. The fee is $25 per month or $5 per visit.
Senior Nutrition Center: Are you age 60 or older and think you would enjoy mystery trips, monthly birthday parties, hymn book singing, puzzles, card games, listening to live performances of country legend songs and more? Then the Hartselle Senior Center is the place for you! Along with these fun filled activities, a nutritious meal is also served. The suggested daily donation is $1.25. The Hartselle Civitan Club meets the first and third Monday at 6 p.m. in Sparkman Civic Center Room 10. The club works with Civitan International to support and work with people in our community with mental and physical disabilities. They also support the Civitan International Research Center in Birmingham. Civitan is the only civic club with a research center. Hartselle Civitan Club was responsible for starting the Special Needs Accessible Playground located directly behind the Sparkman Civic Center.
