Joe Wheeler Chapter 291 attends District UDC meeting

Nine members of Joe Wheeler UDC Chapter 291 attended the Joe Wheeler District UDC meeting in Athens March 9.

The meeting was held at the Athens- Limestone County Veterans Museum. Joe Wheeler Chapter has two members who are also district officers: recording secretary Faye McWhorter and parliamentarian Bettye Moore.

The 2014 meeting will be held in Decatur with Joe Wheeler Chapter as the host.

The February meeting of the chapter was held on Feb. 21 at the Decatur Utilities Building. A White Elephant Sale was held with Ginger Reeves as the auctioneer .The auction brought in $305.

The money was donated to the Alabama UDC Division Flag Preservation Fund for the Alabama 57th Infantry flag. Mrs. Reeves also gave an informative program about Roswell, Ga., during the war period.

Kay Neel, Faye McWhorter and Terri Dean all received supplemental certificates for Confederate ancestors they had researched. Louise Nicol, a prospective new member, also attended the meeting.

There are several upcoming events for the chapter. The 114th Founders Day Luncheon was March 16 and the annual Confederate Memorial Day will take place at Decatur City Cemetery on April 21 in the Confederate soldier area.
