Priceville High School’s volleyball team qualified for the North Super-Regional as the runner-up to Haleyville in the Class 4A, Area 15 Tournament at home on Thursday.

The Lady Bulldogs will take on No. 5 Jacksonville, the winner of Area 11, at 4:15 p.m. on Oct. 26 at the Von Braun Center.

“Haleyville played well tonight,” said head coach Catrina Mason. “They didn’t let many balls hit the floor.

“It was a disappointing loss for us,” she added, “but I feel we’ll be able to regroup and be competitive in the super regionals.”

Priceville’s Peyton Parker, Kayla Parton and Emily Williams were named to the All-Area team while Alex Moore, Emilee Cunningham and Alison Varner were chosen for the All-Tournament team.

The Lady Bulldogs got off to a good start against Haleyville by easily winning the first of four sets, 25-23. They were ahead by 12-4 early in the set and scored the last four points after Haleyville got some momentum and mounted a late threat.

The second set developed into a seesaw battle with both teams being locked in a tie at 23-all, 24-all and 25-a1l. However, the visitors pulled off the win by scoring the final two points and winning 27-25. The winner came out on top by scores of 25-19, 25-18 in the last two sets.

The Lady Bulldogs moved up in the playoffs by defeating East Lawrence in straight sets, 25-20, 25-23, 25-15. In an earlier match, Haleyville advanced to the finals by defeating Brooks.

Ironically, Priceville’s only area loss was to Brooks while they got by Haleyville in both of their matches.
