Wilson runs over Bulldogs

Priceville’s Bulldogs are still looking for their first area win after falling to Wilson’s Warriors, 55-34, at home Friday night.

The loss dropped the Bulldogs to 1-4 on the season after opening with a win over non-region West Morgan.

The game gave fans a good look at two contrasting styles of offense.

Priceville relied heavily on its passing attack with freshman Kaleb Barker completing 20 of 31 for 333 yards and three touchdowns. Wideout Nick Bell had five catches for 109 yards and two touchdowns.

An unrelenting ground attack was the strength of the Warriors. They piled up 672 yards rushing on 48 carries.

Bulldogs head coach Joel Strunk was not happy with the performance of his players and he let them know about it in no uncertain terms after the game.

“We go in at the half down two and come out in the third quarter with and experience a 10-minute letdown,” Strunk reminded his team. “The little things are what’s getting us beat and it’s not fair for these seniors to go out not a winner.”

“We’ve got to keep working hard to get better and hopefully at some point we’ll be able to get it all together for four quarters,” he added.

The Bulldogs marched 49 yards in three plays for a touchdown after Wilson fumbled the ball on the opening kickoff. The TD came on a 50-yard pass from Barker to Ben Patterson with 11:10 left in the first period. Bell’s kick for the extra point was no good.

Wilson answered on its third possession by scoring on a 66-yard run by Jason Futrell with 6:12 left in the first quarter. Branden Willingham tacked on the extra point to give Wilson a 7-6 lead.

Wilson went up 13-6 when Houston Wear scored on a three yard run with 11:27 left in the first period. Willingham’ kick for the PAT was no good.

Priceville tied the score at 13-all with 9:42 left in the first half on a three yard TD run by Barker and a PAT conversion by Bell.

The Warriors regained the lead on a 50-yard run by Futrell with 7:15 left in the third quarter. He then puts his team up 21-13 on a two-point conversion run.

The Bulldogs answered by marching 52 yards in five plays and scoring on a three-yard run by Forrest Clemons with 6:09 left in the first half. A two-point conversion attempt failed, allowing Wilson to take a 21-19 advantage into the locker room at halftime.

The Warriors scored three touchdowns in the third quarter to expand their lead to 41-19.

Futrell had TD runs of 17 and nine yards Houston Wear ran back an intercepted pass and 60 yards for the other score. Willingham converted two of the three extra point attempts.

The Bulldogs logged their fourth touchdown on a 40-yard-pass from Barker to Bell with 9:42 left in the fourth quarter. Barker then completed a pass to Patterson for a two-point conversion, cutting Wilson’s lead to 41-27.

Wilson upped its lead to 48-27 on a 47-yard run by Futrell with 9:30 left in the game and a PAT by Willingham.

Priceville responded by scoring its final touchdown on a 15-yard pass from Barker to Bell with 7:55 left in the game. Bell tacked on the extra point to make the score 48-34.

Wilson scored again with 4:17 left on a 14-yad run by Wear, with Willingham added the extra point.

Running Back Clemons paced Priceville’s running attack with 93 yards on 11 carries and a touchdown. Barker picked up 65 yards on 18 carries.

The Bulldogs will face the Danville Hawks on the road Friday at 7 p.m.
