Memorabilia sought for Massey reunion

Anyone having old photographs, newspaper clippings or other memorabilia pertaining to former Massey community businesses is asked to contact Frances Rowe at 256-462-3875. She would like to share these items with those attending the annual Massey Reunion on Oct. 6. The reunion will be held at Massey Volunteer Fire Department from 2 to 5 p.m.

Belated happy birthday wishes go out to Crystal Williams on Aug. 30 and Sandy Schofield on Aug. 31.

Happy birthday wishes go out this week to Joe Slate of Hartselle who will celebrate his 82nd birthday on Sept. 21. He is the youngest acting person for his age that I know, always busy writing books and running the Holladay Antiques Annex in Hartselle. He is married to Rachel Holladay who operates the Holladay Antiques store on West Main Street in Hartselle.

I ask for God’s blessings and protection for all of our volunteer firefighters. These men and women risk their lives so that others might be saved. They think not of themselves but of their fellow human beings, risking life and limb by going into burning buildings and vehicles to rescue those in harm’s way.

Members of Shady Grove Baptist Church welcome visitors to their church services. Sunday School is at 9:30 a.m., morning worship at 10:30 a.m. and Sunday youth service at 5 p.m. On Wednesday, a fellowship supper is at 6 p.m., followed by activities for children, youth and adults. Bro. Tom Campbell is pastor and Tyler Gean is worship leader.

The trees will soon be showing their bright colors of red, gold and orange as the first day of fall comes on Sat., Sept. 22.
