Danville falls in Pepsi semifinals
Danville’s Lady Hawks proved they belonged in the Brewer/Pepsi Volleyball Tournament by winning two of three pool play games and knocking off host Brewer in the quarterfinals.
However, they came up short in the semifinals, losing to Addison in two sets, 25-21, 25-19.
In pool play, the Lady Hawks lost to Madison Academy, 25-23, 25-22 in the opening round but bounced back to take the next two games. They defeated Priceville 25-16, 26-24 and got by Cullman 25-16, 25-21. They also ousted Brewer in the quarterfinals 2-1 (23-25, 25-21, 15-13).
Sydni Shelton collected 60 kills and four blocks in five matches to pace the Lady Hawks. She was followed by Megan Luker with 16 kills. Setter Charlee Anderson finished with 86 assists and seven aces while Kellee Stiles and Sloan Lindsey each had 22 digs, and Lindsey also had a team high eight aces. Andrea Carter and Anderson each had seven aces.
Brewer had wins over Whitesburg Christian, Good Hope and East Limestone before losing to Danville in the quarterfinals.
Priceville defeated Cullman 25-16, 26-24 in the opening round of pool play before losing to Danville and Madison Academy.
McKenzie Parker and Peyton Parker led the Lady Bulldogs in their win over Cullman with six kills and eight assists, respectively. Emilee Cunningham had six blocks and Kayla Payton chipped in three digs.
Madison Academy swept Addison in the finals to win the tournament.
