Funeral for Dusty Smith, 23, of Hartselle was Sun., July 19, at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tom Elder officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

Burial was in Oak Ridge Cemetery.

Mr. Smith died Thur., Aug. 16, 2012. He was born Oct. 20, 1988, in Morgan County. He was a loving son and a proud member of the Oak Ridge Volunteer Fire Department. He was the recipient of an Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Afghanistan Campaign Medal with two stars, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, a NATO Medal, Combat Action Medal and a Certificate of Continuous Honorable Active Service.

He is survived by his mother, Tammie Smith of Hartselle; his stepfather, Jerry Dean Biggers of Arkansas; a sister, Alixendrah “Alix” Biggers of Hartselle; a niece, Catherine “Fraynkie” Johnston, grandfather, Jerry Smith of Town Creek; and grandmother, Roberta Smith of Hartselle.

Pallbearers were Jimmy Brown, Jeff Smith, Jeremy Smith, Zackary Allen and Sam and Andy Smith.
