Macaroni salad

1 cup whole wheat elbow macaroni

2 cups frozen English peas

2 boiled eggs

1/2 cup cheese, cut up

1/2 cup mayonnaise

Cook macaroni and peas together in a large saucepan according to directions. Drain and mix ingredients with peas and macaroni.

Peach treat

3 or 4 peaches, peeled and sliced

1/2 gallon vanilla ice cream

Combine peaches with ice cream in a bowl until mixed well. Serve with angel food cake.

Pineapple pickles

1 can pineapple chunks

1/4 cup vinegar

1/2 cup sugar

6 cloves

1-4 in. cinnamon stick

Drain pineapple, reserving 3/4 cups juice. Combine all ingredients except pineapples. Simmer for 10 minutes. Pour over pineapple. Cover and store in refrigerator.

Hint for the week: To store small canes of fruit juice, such as pineapple juice or any other kind of small cans of juice, put them into a muffin tin and place into refrigerator, by doing this, they will be easy to reach.

Budget hint: Set aside a certain amount of money to be spent for gifts instead of using a credit card to buy them.

Ima Hughes was honored on her 90th birthday with a party at Summerford Nursing Home Sunday, July 29. Eighty-five guests extended their best wishes to her. Serving the guests fruit, nuts, cheese balls, and punch were Linda Hughes, Sally Butler and Daphne Cost. Birthday cake was also served. Mrs. Hughes has two children, Mitchell Hughes and Sally Butler, four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Kitchen hint: Keep a pen or pencil and notepad handy in the kitchen to be used in taking notes or to make a to-do list.
