Eleven qualify for Falkville positions
Qualifying for Falkville’s Municipal Election ended Tues., July 17, with 11 candidates and four contests.
Incumbent councilmen David Carroll (Place 4) and Alton Hill (Place 2) both qualified for reelection but had no opposition and will automatically retain their seats.
Lance Stidham gave up his Place 1 seat on the council to seek the mayor’s office after Mayor Jimmie Walker opted not to seek reelection. Running against him is former councilman Bob Ramey.
Three are qualified as candidates for Stidham’s seat on the council. They are Bennie Weaver, Bobby Roy Jr. and Brandon Dillard, all newcomers to politics.
Incumbent Matt Stiles is seeking reelection to Place 3 on the council. He has opposition from Charlie Gover, a teacher-coach at Sparkman High School who filed as a candidate on the last day of qualifying.
A race for Place 5 on the council involves the incumbent, Ken Winkles, and Patrick Holmes.
