Susie Childers

Funeral service for Susie Childers, 93, of Oden Ridge will be Thur., July 19, at 3:30 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Vernon Willis and Brandon Berry officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

Burial will be in Lawrence Cove Cemetery. Visitation will be Thur., July 19, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Miss Childers died on Tues., July 17, 2012, at Summerford Nursing Home. She was born Oct. 17, 1918, in Morgan County to Monk Oliver Childers and Vera Bernice (Drinkard) Childers. She loved gardening and reading her Bible and was a member of Eva Baptist Church. She was affectionately known as “Aunt Susie” to her 34 nieces and nephews, who always enjoyed visiting with her when they were young. Through the years, Aunt Susie always told the stories of the family history which we refer to as the “Good Ol’ Days.” She was a mother, aunt, grandmother, and our special friend, to all her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers: Laco, Birlen, and

O.Q Childers, and one sister: Ruby Childers Bailey.

The family extends a special thanks to Summerford Nursing Home for their loving care.

She is survived by a brother, Billy G. Childers, Oden Ridge; three sisters, Elizabeth Holmes, Angie Veal and Bernice Chesser, all of Cullman; sister-in-law, Gail Childers of Eva; 34 nieces and nephews; 80 great nieces and nephews; 74 great-great nieces and nephews; and three great-great-great nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be David Childers, Jeff Webb, Ricky Childers, Jeremy George, Benny Childers, Randall Childers, Michael Childers, Jimmy Holmes, Jerry Veal, Larry Jo Veal, Arvil Bailey and Brad Turrentine.
