George Velvert Johnson

Funeral for George Velvert Johnson, 83, of Hartselle will be Tues., July 17, at 2 p.m. at New Center Baptist Church with the Rev. Ben Bates officiating with burial in the adjoining cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing.

Visitation will be from noon until service time on Tuesday at the church.

Mr. Johnson died on Sat., July 14, 2012, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born July 19, 1928 in Winston County to John Pryor Johnson and Ruby Nelson Johnson. He was an appliance repairman for McCulloch Appliance Sales and Service in Decatur. He was a member of the New Center Baptist Church and was a long time member of the Morgan County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertie Lee Johnson; a son, Alan Johnson; and a granddaughter, Jennifer Austin. He really loved and enjoyed his whole family.

He is survived by three sons, Mike Johnson and wife Laura of Trinity, Dewain Keel and wife Sandy of Hartselle and Doug Keel of Hartselle; three daughters, Faye Dutton and husband George, Teresa Lackey and husband Frankie and Kasonyia Briggs and husband Shannon, all of Hartselle; 17 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Michael Johnson, Josh Souders, Brandon Johnson, Joey Souders, Kody Vest, Chandler Briggs, Jeff Dutton and Chase Keel will serve as pallbearers.
