Maurine Black Cornhill

Funeral for Maurine Black Cornhill, 94, of Hartselle will be Fri., July 13, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church with the Revs. Harold Thompson and Bobby Ray Halbrooks officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Cornhill will lie in state at the church for 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will be in Mt. Tabor Cemetery. Visitation will be Thur., July 12, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral

home.

Mrs. Cornhill died on Tues., July 10, 2012, at her home. She was born Jan. 2, 1918, in Morgan County to James Albert Black and Rhonnie Hunkapillar Black.

Mrs. Cornhill was a believer in Jesus and a life-long and active member of Mt. Tabor UMC. She taught third grade for 26 years at Cotaco Elementary School. Mrs. Cornhill was an avid reader and loved working crossword puzzles. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, embroidering, crocheting and watching the Braves play baseball. Some of her memorable times were from travels throughout the United States and abroad. Mrs. Cornhill dearly loved her family and was happiest when family gathered together. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and teacher.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eddie Cornhill; a baby son, Eddie Don Cornhill; a brother, Milford Black; a sister, Mary Sue Black Wright; and brother-in-law, Alvie Wright.

She is survived by a son, Ronnie Michael Cornhill and wife Laura of Somerville; a daughter, Martha Cornhill Knight of Birmingham; a brother, R.B. Black and wife Gwendolyn of Decatur; a sister, Barbara Black Terry and husband Lawrence of Marion; a sister-in-law, Laverne Floyd Black of Hartselle; four surviving grandchildren, Michael Albert Knight and wife Nicole of Pelham, Shannon Knight Vann and husband Daniel of Hoover, Marianne Cornhill Colee and husband Brent of Oxford, Miss., and Michael Eddie Cornhill and wife Gina of Priceville; and 12 surviving great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Mike Knight, Michael Cornhill, Daniel Vann, Brent Colee, Bobby Halbrooks and Charles Pennington.

The family wishes to express a heartfelt thank you to Mrs. Cornhill’s independent caregivers, Helen Seay, Vickie Wilbourn, Whitney Scott, Terisa Tapscott and Lavern Byrd; Vanessa Sparks with Home-Instead; and R.N. Jewell Ann Mills with Ala-Care Hospice in Decatur.
