John Austin Johnson

John A. Johnson, 62, of Decatur died Sun., Oct. 2, 2011, at his residence.

A memorial service will be announced by the family at a later date.

Mr. Johnson was born Sept. 29, 1949, in Illinois to Benton Eugene Johnson and Rosalie Nora Bailey Johnson. He was a 1968 graduate of Austin High School, a Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War and a graduate of Athens State University with a B.S. degree in accounting. He was a Purple Heart recipient and the long-time former owner of J&N Johnson Associates and Valley Computers. He considered all of his accounting clients as friends. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW.

He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Nancy Johnson of Decatur; two sons, Michael Johnson and wife Catherine of Chicago, Ill. and Matthew Taylor of Tuscaloosa; a sister, Sandra Deeann Morrison and husband Jerry of Fayetteville, Tenn.; a grandchild, Samuel Joseph Johnson; a niece, Jennifer Slater and husband Jon of Tullahoma, Tenn; and a great-nephew, Alex Slater of Tullahoma, Tenn.

The family extends thanks to all of his employees who supported him over the years and thanks Hospice of the Valley for their support.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the American Lung Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association.
