The Falkville FFA Ag Mechanics teamwas recently named state champions in the Agricultural Mechanics contest as a part of the 82nd Alabama FFA Convention. The team competed in events that consisted of electrical wiring, welding, concrete estimation and calculation and soil permeability. They also completed a team activity that involved distance estimation, acreage estimation, and surveying. The team will represent Alabama at the National FFA Convention held in Indianapolis in October. Team members are, from left, Robert Summerford, Mary Grace Ward, Seth Pillow and Travis Blankenship.
The Falkville FFA Forestry team placed second in the state at the Alabama FFA Convention. The event was held in Auburn and consisted of timber estimation, compass and pacing, tree ID, topographic map interpretation, equipment ID, and timber stand improvement. Ashley Holmes, a graduate of Falkville High School, was named the Alabama state winner in the Outdoor Recreation Proficiency Contest. She received this award through a detailed application highlighting her work on her family hunting grounds along with the hunting clubs she is a member of. Her application will now be judged against other applicants from across the United States. Holmes is the daughter of Freddy and Grace Holmes.
Robert Summerford of the Falkville FFA Chapter was awarded second place in the Beef Production Proficiency Contest. His award was based on an application showing his work in the production of beef cattle on his family’s farm. Robert will be a senior at Falkville High School and his FFA advisor is Shane Bryan. He is the Son of Eric Summerford and Lisa Mann.
Tyler Tucker of the Falkville FFA Chapter was awarded fourth place in the Specialty Animal Production Proficiency at the Alabama FFA State Convention. Tyler's award was based on the management of his goat operation. Tyler will be a Junior at Falkville High School and is the son of Keith and Jennifer Tucker.
