Roy Anderson Knox

A graveside service for Roy Anderson Knox, 84, of Decatur will be Thursday, June 23, at 10 a.m. at Powell Chapel Cemetery with the Rev. Randy Berry officiating and Shelton Funeral Home directing.

Visitation will be Wednesday, June 22, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Knox died Sunday, June 19, 2011, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born June 8, 1927, in Cullman, to Farris Knox and Cora Handley Knox. He was a member of Austinville Baptist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving more than 16  years including WWII and Korea. He earned numerous awards such as Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Stars and two Overseas Bars, Combat Infantry Badge, Army Occupational Medal (Japan), WWII Victory Medal and a Purple Heart. Following his military service he worked as a machinist and retired from TVA. He was preceded in death by wife, Pearl Slaton Knox; a son, Roy Anderson “Ronnie” Knox Jr.; and two daughters, Donna Kay Knox and Cathy Sheree Knox.

He is survived by a daughter, Tina Knox Morris and husband Derek of Decatur; a sister, Gladys Clemons of Hartselle; and two grandchildren, Blake Carrell and Emily Morris.

The family would like to express their most sincere gratitude to the ICU nurses at Decatur General Hospital for their compassion and excellent care.
