HHS cross county team hosts 5K run fundraiser (corrected)

Hartselle High School’s newly formed cross country team has announced plans for a Sparkman Park Stampede Cross Country 5K and Fun Run Saturday, June 11.

The long-distance run will begin with registration from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. and an 8 a.m. start time. The fun run will begin at 9 a.m. with the awards ceremony following at 9:30 a.m.

The entry fee for 5K runners is $15 if registered before June 8 and $20 for those who register after June 8. The fun run entry fee is $5 per runner.

Male and female runners will compete in separate divisions, including overall winners in each division as well as 12 different age brackets.

All proceeds from the event will be used to provide funds for transportation, entry fees and equipment for Hartselle High’s newly formed cross-country team, which is coached by Kenneth Lopez.

The 5K-race course begins at the soccer fields alongside Groover Road. It loops around the soccer fields, weaves through the park’s walking trail, encompasses some of the baseball and softball fields and ends near the start. There’s no need to buy trail shoes for this event. There are several rolling hills and the course will provide some shade under tall trees. This will be a spectator friendly race due to the configuration of the park’s land mass.
