Mildred Stringer Newton

Funeral for Mildred Stringer Newton, 93, of Hartselle was Sunday, May 22, at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ben Bates officiating.

Burial was in New Center Cemetery

Mrs. Newton died Friday, May 20, 2011, at her residence. He was born May 12, 1918, in Arizona to Hubert Lacon Stringer and Josie Pearl Maples Stringer. She was a homemaker, a loving wife, mother and grandmother and was a member of New Center Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a son, James Wilburn Newton Jr. and two brothers, Hubert Lacon Stringer and William Stringer.

She was survived by her husband of 75 years, James W. Newton; two daughters, Rachel Maxine Gibson and husband Henry and Josie Faye Cobbs and husband Milford, all of Hartselle; four grandsons, Jerry Cobbs, Jim Gibson, Lee Gibson and Michael Gibson; and a granddaughter, Donna Cobbs Coleman.

Pallbearers were grandsons and great-grandsons.

A special thanks to Hospice of North Alabama and her caregivers, whom she loved so much. In lieu of flowers please make memorial contributions to the New Center Baptist Church of Hartselle “Building Fund.”
