Emergency kit recommended

New Center news

You never know how fortunate you are until you are faced with going several days without all of the many luxuries that we have all grown accustomed to.
Did you find yourself unprepared like myself with the recent devastating tornadoes in this area or perhaps did you have a small emergency kit on hand with the essentials that would need? I guess we were all caught unprepared, I’m sure there is a guideline    to go by somewhere so of the items that I think you would want to have on hand would be a battery-operated radio, batteries, bottled water, non-perishable food items, first aid kit, matches, lighters and candles. I’m sure there are other items that will be needed as well. One more item that I think is important is always remember to never come home on an empty gas tank because you are not always guaranteed power will be available. I can say truthfully that during this tragedy everyone has come together to help in so many ways. There have been so many wonderful folks willing to take the time to volunteer and help in any way possible. A special thank you goes out to all of you. Also, to those who loaned generators to some of our local gas stations I thank you so much. This made it possible for so many people to put much needed gas in their vehicles. To the storeowners who opened your places of business so folks could purchase groceries thank you also. During a time like this we all need to pull together for each other.
Happy birthday wishes go out this week to Ilene Smith on May 5, May Smith on May 7 and Bob Ash on May 11,
Happy wedding anniversary wishes go out to Marlon and Donna Terry on May 5, Jim and Pam Roberts on May 6, Joe and Tiny Hollis on May 7, Jim and Mildred Newton on May 9 and Jon and Ali Mast on May 9.
I would like to wish my mother, Evelyn Motes, a happy Mother’s Day. You’ve taught me so much. In some ways we’re so alike and in other ways we’re so different.
But there’s one thing I know for sure I’m so grateful to have you for my mother. We love you much. –Von
