Lady Tigers golf team advances to sub-state

Hartselle High School’s girls golf team has advanced to Class 1A-5A sub-state competition after posting a combined score of 230 at Goose Pond Colony in Scottsboro on Tuesday.

The score was the best posted in a field of 17 competitors and enhanced the team’s chances of returning to the state finals and winning their third straight state championship title.

Arin Eddy led her team with a 16-hole score of 72. Heather Nail shot 74, Kaylon King, 84 and Mary Roberts, 87.

Hartselle will host a sub-state tournament at Burningtree Gold Course Tuesday, May 3, beginning at 1 p.m. Teams competing for a trip to the state tournament include Brewer, Curry, Hamilton, Hanceville, Bayside Academy, Faith Christian Academy and Spanish Fort.

The only loss the Lady Tigers have incurred this season was finishing second to Hewitt-Trussville, a 6-A school, in a tournament.

“The girls are playing well right now,” said coach Gary Orr. “Hopefully, they’ll be able to stay on top of their game as we move deeper into the playoffs.”
