A young boy was injured Monday morning when it was struck by a car while crossing Puckett Road, across from the apartment where he lived.

Carlo Goodwin, 2, was taken by ambulance to Hartselle Medical Center and later airlifted to Huntsville Hospital with facial lacerations and a broken jaw. His injuries were not life threatening and he was placed in the pediatric intensive care unit.

The child had apparently crossed the street to retrieve a ball he and his sister were playing with and was returning to his yard when he was struck by a SUV, according to Hartselle Police Investigator Lt. Justin Barley. An investigation is continuing to determine if the children were under adult supervision at the time of the accident.

The driver of the vehicle involved was listed as Maurice Cartwright, 31, of Hartselle.
