James Edward Hampton

Funeral for James Edward Hampton, 87, of Hartselle was Thursday, April 14, at 3 p.m. at West Hartselle Baptist Church with the Rev. Jack Redfearn officiating.

Burial was in Hartselle Memory Gardens.

Mr. Hampton died Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at his residence. He was born July 7, 1923, in Morgan County to James T. Hampton and Nelle D. Breedlove Hampton. He was president and co-owner of Hampton Brothers Construction Company, was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II, was a former director of SouthTrust Bank in Hartselle; was instrumental in forming Hartselle Youth Baseball and Softball leagues and was a charter member of West Hartselle Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Hampton.

He is survived by his wife, Joan Nelson Hampton; a son, Jim Hampton and wife Lane; two daughters, Maggie Parr and husband David and Sissi Tanksley and husband Greg, all of Hartselle; eight grandchildren, Leslie Hampton Stringer and husband Scott, Katie Hampton, Meg Tanksley Knight and husband Kyle, Hamp Tanksley and wife Kristen; Amanda Hampton, Ryan Blaylock and wife Christie, Michael Blaylock and wife Amy and Christopher Blaylock and wife April; five great-grandchildren; and three special caregivers, Debbie Kilpatric, Cheryl Pack and Lisa Roberson.

Pallbearers were Hamp Tanklsey, Greg Tanklsey, David Parr, Scott Stringer, Ryan Blaylock, Jonathan Hampton, Kris Lemmond and Kevin Corum.

Honorary pallbearers were members of BC Farm Hunting Club, Harold Woodruff, Rethal Hightower and Charles Nolen.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alabama Baptist Children’s Home or to the building fund at West Hartselle Baptist Church.
