It’s time to start thinking about income taxes

New Center News

As far as the weather is concerned, this year has been a difficult winter. It also has been a time when we have had several deaths in our community.
Christian love and sympathy is extended to the family of Bertie Lee Keel Johnson who passed away Sat., Feb. 12 at the age of 81. For a number of years Bertie Lee was a beautician in the New Center community. There was a branch that ran through the back of their property and when my momma would get a perm my sister Kaye and I would get into trouble for playing in the branch. Please remember Velvert, Faye, Dewain, Teresa, Doug and Kasonyia and their families in your prayers.
Once again it’s time to start preparing to file your income taxes. The AARP has begun its free tax assistance program at the Morgan Baptist Association office in Hartselle. Assistance is offered each Tuesday and Wednesday until April 15.
The service is for everyone who needs help filling out the tax forms and filing their federal and state tax returns. There is no charge. Call the MBA office at 256-773-5243 to make an appointment.
Happy birthday wishes go out this week to Mary Posey, Pam Roberts, Cary Roberts and Brenda Wilhoite on Feb. 17, Jimmy Lemmond on Feb. 20, Jimmy Nesmith and Marshell Carlson, both on Feb. 21, Georgia Palmer and Vida Duke, both on Feb. 22, Nancy Fowler and  Karen Nelson, both on Feb. 23 and Jerry and Rita Cobbs, both on Feb. 20.
The Somerville Celebration Committee and Somerville Civitan Club will present their 7th annual Pancake Breakfast on Sat., Feb. 19,  from 7a.m. to 11 a.m. at the historic Somerville courthouse. A $5 donation is requested and kids under 10 may eat free. Buy your tickets from any Civitan member or at town hall. You may also pay at the door. Proceeds will benefit the Somerville Courthouse Restoration Project and the Civitan Club.
The Fellowship Quartet will be singing at Oden Ridge Baptist Church on Sat., Feb. 19, at 7 p.m.
