Area thaws with early spring weather
Last week’s snowfall could be the area’s last bout with winter weather this season.
Temperatures this week have soared in the 60s and are expect to remain there through next week.
Rain is in the forecast for Monday, the highs will continue to be in the 60s most days and possibly even as high as 70.
A two-inch blanket of snow fell in Hartselle and Morgan County last Wednesday night leaving ice on streets and roads and causing Hartselle City and Morgan County School systems to cancel classes.
However, streets remained passable thanks to the work of Hartselle Public Works. Crews worked throughout the night putting sand down to improve traction on icy patches.
“Everything is moving as far as city operations are concerned,” said Mayor Dwight Tankersley. “That includes garbage pickup.”
“But we’re encouraging people not to get out on the streets and roads unless it is necessary,” he stated.
School closings affected the start of area basketball competition, but the games were made up on Friday last week.
