Shady Grove Baptist youth host spaghetti supper fundraiser

The junior youth of Shady Grove Baptist Church will host a spaghetti dinner fundraiser on Sun., Feb. 13, from 11: 30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The plates will be $6 each and will include spaghetti, salad, bread and dessert. The proceeds will help the group go to summer camp. Anyone interested in a plate should contact a member of junior youth to pre-order your tickets. You may dine in or take out. All help and support will be greatly appreciated.
Punkin Center Volunteer Fire Department hosted a vehicle extrication training session on Sat., Feb. 5, at its new fire station #2 on Kirby Bridge Road. Fire fighters from Neel and Mud Tavern Fire Department participated in the training activity.
The fire fighters cut up two cars using the Jaws of Life and other extrication tools. Mud Tavern fire fighters broke out their air bags and firefighters put the upside down car on its side and then flipped it back on its wheels with the help of Punkin Center’s #189 truck.
The fire fighters enjoyed a pizza lunch break, after which they set the cars on fire and continued their training.
“We got in a lot of good hands-on training,” said Punkin Center fire chief Steve Poole. “This is essential in order for us to maintain our fire fighting skills. I was really proud of the way everyone pitched in and worked together.”
Punkin Center fire fighters who participated in the training session were Steve Poole, Cindy Poole, Cody Poole, Carson Peters, Kim Peters, Jonathon Peters, Adam Belk, Connor Boyd, Justin Terry, Justin Fagan, John Fennel, Derek Sparkman, Stanley Linderman and Andy LaFavor, Representing Neel and Mud Tavern departments were Larry Ennis, Matt Ennis and Jake Chappell.
Special belated happy wedding anniversary wishes go out this week to Jimmie and Mildred Lake who observed their 45th anniversary on Feb. 4 and Mack and Evon Vest and Virgil and Jane Vest who celebrated their 41st and 40th anniversaries, respectively, on Feb. 6.
Special belated happy birthday wishes go out this week to Tricia O’Kelly and Wilma Smith, both on Feb. 1, James Roden and Tad Campbell, both on Feb. 2, Kaylea Morris on Feb. 3, Lee Ann Jones on Feb. 5, Ainsley Maples on Feb. 7, and JoAnn Alexander and Tracy LaRoche, both on Feb. 9.
