Bartlett to leave law enforcement
Morgan County Sheriff Greg Bartlett will leave law enforcement for retirement when his current term expires on January 17 but will remain active in the workforce as an employee of a company that makes, sells and installs phone systems used by jail inmates.
Bartlett is retiring through the Alabama Retirement System with 28 years of service in law enforcement and will join Talton Communications of Selma as a sales representative. His new job will involve some travel but will enable him to work out of his home near Hartselle. In addition to serving two consecutive four-year terms as sheriff, his law enforcement background includes service with the Hartselle Police Department and Morgan County District Attorney’s Office.
Following him in the sheriff’s office will be Ana Franklin, a former Morgan County deputy who won the Republican Party nomination over Bartlett in July 2010 and went on to defeat Democrat Tom Little in the November election.
Among Bartlett’s biggest accomplishments was the leadership he provided to get a new Morgan County Jail off the ground and running smoothly.
Other notable accomplishments included the creation of a computerized system to track the location of sex offenders, guiding his office to a number one state ranking in methamphetemine lab busts and upgrading patrol cars with new technology. Also, his office recently used $250,000 in discretionary funds to buy 10 new SUV patrol vehicles.
