Mothers send gifts overseas
HARTSELLE – The Blue Star Mothers of Morgan County are gathering names of local soldiers who are serving overseas so they can mail Christmas stockings and gift boxes to them. The mothers are asking people who know soldiers who are deployed to send contact information to www.bluestarmothersof morgancounty.org.
Each soldier will receive a stocking, supplies, treats, and memories of home.
On Nov. 22, the mothers and family members packed more than 75 boxes, which have already been sent to troops deployed to Afghanistan, Iraq, Kuwait and other locations around the globe.
“While we are working on these Christmas boxes, we are accepting donations year-round for upcoming mailings,” President Terri Norwood said. “We send packages almost monthly, and we send birthday boxes, too.
“We support those who protect us. We are involved in local parades and military events, and the Christmas boxes project is one of our outreach events in which the public is directly involved.”
The next mailing will be done Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. at East Highland Baptist Church.
“Anyone who would like to participate or who would like more information about our organization is welcome to ask questions during this meetings. Or, they may call me at 345-8700,” Norwood said.
