A Cooking Contest was also held for the first time. A first place blue ribbon for best peach preserves was won by Doris Clark. Mary Terry won second place for her grape jelly and Betty Boyd won honorable mention for her green tomato pickles. Hutty McGuire also won honorable mention for her blackberry jam.
Rassie Wallace enjoyed grilling hamburgers and hotdogs as a free treat for the kids. He also grilled 75 steak sandwiches. Seventy-five barbecue plates were also sold.
A fireworks display was really exceptional and the music was great.

Bro. John D. Bain enjoyed visiting Camp Bluebird last week and presenting a magic show for 55 adult cancer patients and camp volunteers.
He said the patients seemed to enjoy the magic and message and he enjoyed their spirit of life. Camp Bluebird is America’s first adult cancer camp and is sponsored by St. Vincent’s Hospital in Birmingham.
It offers recreation, relaxation, crafts and other activities and gives patients the opportunity to openly talk about their experiences and emotions associated with cancer. “I just want to share my feelings by saying God bless you to each of the patients at the camp and to each one of the volunteers who help make the camp possible.”
Bro. John D. Bain will be delivering the message at Flint Baptist Church on Sunday, Oct. 10. The morning service will be at 10:30 a.m. and the evening service at 6:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome.
