Priceville to decide on alcohol sales too

The voters of Priceville will have an opportunity to decide whether they want businesses in town to be allowed to sell alcohol beverages  at a special wet-dry referendum to be conducted during the Nov. 2 general election.
City Clerk Kelly Dean said the referendum was set in motion Sept. 13 after she verified that as least 256 names on a petition, which she received on Sept. 10, were those of registered Priceville voters.  The proponents of alcohol beverage sales needed only 236 certifiable voter names on the petition to bring the question to a vote.
The referendum will be limited to voters who reside inside the town limits, and a separate ballot and voting machine will be used to tabulate the results.
Priceville and other Alabama municipalities with populations under 5,000 became eligible to conduct referendums on the alcohol sales issue as a result of legislation passed in 2009.  Falkville voters participated in a wet-dry referendum during the June primary election with “no“ votes outnumbering “yes” votes,  249 to 156.
