All aboard for Depot Days

Hartselle’s 30th annual Depot Days Celebration will get under way Sept. 11 with a beauty pageant at Sparkman Civic Center and climax Sept. 18 with an all-day downtown festival.
A community worship service will be featured Sept. 12, at 6:30 p.m. at First Assembly of God. The speaker will be David Melton, pastor of First Nazarene Church.  A love offering will be taken to assist the sponsor, Hartselle Ministerial Association, in carrying out a ministry to stranded transients.
The history of the downtown business district will be the theme for a Down Memory Lane program presented by Hartselle Historical Society on Monday evening. Exhibits depicting the city’s early businesses and their owners will be open for public viewing in the classrooms at Hartselle Fine Arts Center from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and again Sept. 18 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Listed among display items of special interest are a pendulum clock that was used in the former Corsbie Furniture and Hardware Co. in the early 1900s and a train conductor’s uniform and railroad worker’s tools, which are more than 75 years old.
A program, featuring a slide presentation by David Burleson on the history of the downtown business district, will follow. Also, several descendants of the town’s early merchants will share family stories of special interest .
On Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. an old-fashioned hymn sing will be conducted at First United Methodist Church in Hartselle
A Depot Days musical concert will be presented by the Hartselle High School Choral department Sept. 16 at 6:30 p.m.
The event will conclude on Saturday with a day-long festival featuring 5K and 1K road races, antique and classic car show, antique tractor show, kennel club demonstration, live stage entertainment. musical talent show, food and craft vendors and fun-filled rides for children.
