Funeral for Sherman Kirby, 65, of Hartselle was Sunday, Aug. 22, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Hartselle with Dr. Jeff Redmond officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Burial was in Hartselle Memory Gardens.
Mr. Kirby died Thursday, Aug. 19, 2010, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Sept. 25, 1944, in Morgan County to Carl Watson Kirby and Mable Irene Cornelius Kirby. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Hart-selle, a retiree of Bell South after 33 years of service, a cattle farmer and a part-time employee of the Hartselle Enquirer.  He was also a member of the Morgan County Cattle-men’s Association where he served as a director and was named “Cattleman of the Year” in 2000 and named “Father of the Year” in 2006 by the Morgan County Cattlewomen’s Association. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he attended Danville High School and was a former youth baseball, softball and basketball coach in Hartselle. He was a friend to many and will be greatly missed. The love of his life was his two grandchildren, Kameron and Sarah Kate Kirby, who affectionately called him “Nar Nar.”
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Ann H. Kirby of Hartselle; two sons, Kevin Kirby and wife Susanna of Decatur and Scott Kirby and wife Liz of Mobile; three brothers, Kyle Kirby and wife Dorothy of Hartselle, Ray Kirby of Danville and Malcolm Kirby and wife Katie of Danville; two sisters, twin Shirley Standridge and husband Kenneth of Danville and Ruby Story and husband J.T. of Hartselle; two grandchildren, Kameron and Sarah Kate Kirby of Decatur; his mother-in-law, Lucille Hall of Hartselle; and many nephews and nieces.
Pallbearers were Kevin Kirby, Scott Kirby, Hank Quattlebaum, Jimmie Walker, Chris Wallace and Johnny Dean.
Honorary pallbearers were J.P. Cain, Buaford Lawrence, Bell South friends, Morgan County Cattlemen’s Association members and members of the Bo Johnson Sunday School Class.
The family requests that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund at 210 Woodland St., Hartselle, AL 35640 or to the Morgan County Cattlemen’s Scholarship Fund at P.O. Box 931, Hartselle. AL 35640 in memory of Sherman Kirby.
