Falkville athletic teams gear up for busy year

The Falkville High School Blue Devils Football season will open at Sumiton Christian Aug. 27. They will play host to Tanner Sept. 3 and then go to Cleveland Sept. 19. They will place host to Oakman Sept. 17 and then go to Westminster Sept. 24. They will host Cole Springs Oct. 1 and then travel to Fultondale Oct. 8 then to Brindlee Mountain Oct. 15. They will host West End of Walnut Grove Oct. 22 and then end the season Oct. 29 with Danville at home.

Mushroom Soup Cassrole
1 pound ground beef
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1/4 cup milk
1/2 cup mushrooms
1/2 cup onion, chopped
1 cup sour cream
4 ounces cooked noodles
Brown ground beef until done, drain off grease. Stir in cream of mushroom soup, milk, mushrooms, onion, sour cream and noodles. Simmer, covered, for 5-8 minutes. Serve immediately.

Chili Mac
1 pound ground beef
1 small onion, chopped
1 can tomatoes
1/2 cup macaroni
Brown ground beef and onion until meat is cooked and onion is tender. Stir in tomatoes and macaroni. Cover and simmer until macaroni is tender, about 10 minutes. Salt and pepper to taste.

Pickled beets
1 can whole beets
Juice from one jar of pickles, any kind
Drain the liquid from the canned beets. Cover the beets with pickle juice and chill for at least four hours. Can be served hot or cold.

Cooking tip for this week: If a recipe calls for one cup chopped onion, use two medium onions.

Party Yogurt
6 cups vanilla yogurt
1/2 cup flake coconut
1/2 cup chopped nuts of your choice
Mix all ingredients together. Serve in dessert dishes.
