Donald J. Wallace

Funeral for Donald J. Wallace, 83, of Neel was Mon., Aug. 16, at 10 a.m. at Neel United Methodist Church with Peck Funeral Home directing.
Burial was in Johnson Chapel Cemetery.
Mr. Wallace died Sat., Aug. 14, at his residence. He was a farmer, Wolverine retiree, veteran of the U.S. Navy and a lifelong resident of the Neel community. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ryan Wallace; parents, Virgil and Effie Wallace; two brothers, Leon and Buddy Wallace; three brothers-in-law, Glyn Russell, Edwin Pike and Charles Lee James; and a nephew.
He is survived by four children, Susan Long and husband Doug of Neel, Kay Wallace and William Shanahan of Leesburg, Va., Karen Randolph and husband Jerry of Danville and Joel Wallace and wife Carolyn of Neel; nine grandchildren, Kevin Long and wife Amy, Emily Sparkman and husband Tony, Paige Blackwood and husband Brett, Brian Randolph and wife Michelle, Cara Gilchrist and husband Bradley, Kurt Randolph and wife Cara, Heath Wallace, Brooke Reed and husband Josh and Jessica Hart and husband Stephen; 18 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Mae Sue Wallace; six sisters, Edith Long and husband Buey, Polly James, Elsie Pike, Mary McCay and husband Johnny, Jonnie Russell, all of Neel, and Charlcie Montgomery and husband Paul of Decatur; and his devoted friend and companion of many years, Aldredge Stephens of Huntsville.
Pallbearers will be Joel Wallace, Don Long, Jerry Randolph, Kevin Long, Brian Randolph, Heath Wallace, Kurt Randolph, Brett Blackwood, William Shanahan and David Ryan.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org, Alacare Hospice and Home Health Fund, 2400 John Hawkins Pkwy., Birmingham, AL 35244, or the charity of your choosing.
