Library offers Medicare seminar

Hundreds of individuals in Morgan County are eligible for assistance in paying their Medicare premiums and don’t know it, according to Cissy Pearson, a counselor for NARCOG’s Area Agency on Aging in Decatur.
“Many Medicare beneficiaries and their caregivers have found assistance provided by the State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP),” Pearson said. “SHIP counselors from NARCOG routinely provide peace of mind to many beneficiaries by helping them to understand their Medicare benefits.
Counseling and information is available on how to apply for extra help to pay Medicare premiums and deductibles. SHIP counselors are also available to answer questions regarding original Medicare, Medicare Part D, Medicare Supplemental Insurance and Medical Health plans. All services are provided free of charge to beneficiaries and/or their family members.
Individuals who will be new to Medicare are also encouraged to seek counsel. Personal, confidential counseling will be available at Somerville Public Library Aug. 19 from 2 to 3 p.m.  For information, contact NARCOG at 256-355-4515.
