Darlings win pair in Texas

Hartselle’s 7-8 Darlings all-stars remained unbeaten through Monday’s games in the 2010 Dixie Softball World Series in Denison, Tex. and were scheduled to play Madison, Tenn. in a winner’s bracket semi-final game Tuesday night.
Hartselle’s 13-15 Belles were eliminated in their age division in Pineville, La. on Monday night after winning their first two games, 11-1 against North Carolina on Saturday and 10-0 against Mississippi on Sunday.
They were knocked out of the winner’s bracket by Florida, 10-6, in a second game played on Sunday and lost again to South Carolina, 7-4, in an elimination game.
In an opening round contest on Saturday, Hartselle’s Darlings defeated West Stanley, N.C. 18-1. The Alabama champions remained in the winner’s bracket on Sunday by pulling out a 7-5 win over Winnsboro, La.
The team earned a bye on Monday and was scheduled to face Madison, Tenn. in a semi-final winner’s bracket game on Tuesday.
The tournament started with a host team and 10 state champions. The championship game was scheduled to be played on Wednesday.
Hartselle’s Darlings claimed championship honors at the 2008 World Series and finished as the runner-up champions in 2007 and 2009. Members of this year’s team are: Makayla Addie, Hannah Grace Bevis, Kalli Cartee, Emily Cowart, Amber Crittenden, Kelsey Crow, Chaney Dutton, Mallory Lott, Allie Mayfield, Victoria McClure, Morgyn Sparkman and Kylie Winton. The manager is Chad Bevis and coaches are Alison Cartee, Michael Crow and Brandon Dutton.
