Funeral for Vernon Ayre, 72, of Falkville will be Thursday, Aug. 5, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Falkville with the Revs. Greg Burcham and Kerry Cleghorn officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
The body will lie instate for one hour prior to the funeral.
Burial will be in Falkville City Cemetery.
Mr. Ayre died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2010. He was a 50-year member of First Baptist Church of Falkville and a member of Joy Sunday School Class. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Willa Ayre.
He was employed for 43 years in research and development for the Department of the Army. He and his wife enjoyed traveling and visited all 50 states and about 100 foreign countries.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Margaret Ayre; of Falkville;  a son, Vernon Ayre and wife Rachael of Falkville; two daughters, Donna Stooksberry and husband Ronnie of Elgin and Mary Comer and husband Randy of Rogersville; a brother, Frank “Toby” M. Ayre Jr. and wife Pat of Chattanooga, Tenn.; and six grandchildren, Vernon Hall Ayre III, Kim Ayre, Vanessa Cole, Sarah Ayre, Lauren Comer and Ashley Comer.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of Joy Sunday School class and his brothers- in-law. Music will be conducted by Patricia Ramey, Von Burton, David Halbrooks and Patricia Coots.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church, Awana Program, 305 East Main St., Falkville, AL 35622 or to Falkville Public Library, 7 North 1st Ave., Falkville, AL 35622.
