VBS brings back sweet memories

Seeing all of the signs out announcing vacation Bible schools has brought back memories of when I went when I was a kid. At that time we lived in Decatur and when New Center Church had its Bible school us kids would come and stay the whole week with mom maw and paw paw Maples so we could go. We had so much fun. We listened to Bible stories, learned songs and Bible verses and worked on different crafts.
We also enjoyed Kool-Aid and cookies for snack time.
Some of the crafts we made were book markers, an octopus made out of knitting yarn, water globes made out of baby food jars filled with water, plastic flowers and glitter. The older kids would make jewelry boxes out of Popsicle sticks or a cigar box with macaroni glued on it and spray painted gold. Those are memories I will never forget.
I hope all of you dads enjoyed a wonderful Father’s Day.
Christian love and sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Randy Wales and to Mrs. Hazel Hanners in the loss of her daughter, Sue Hanners Holmes.
The hearts of New Center Baptist Church members were saddened in the loss of one of its members, Jerrie Ash. Her memorial service was on Sunday and burial was in St. Clair County.
Happy birthday wishes go out this week to Vic Keeling and Lyle Caswell, both on June 26, Cameron Bates and Jonathan Lacy, both on June 27, Teresa Lackey on June 28, Connie Tiffany and Rusty Cooper, both on June 29 and Charlottte Burgess and Abbie Clemons, both on June 30.
Happy birthday wishes to my nephew, Johndale Motes, who will celebrate his birthday on June 26.
Happy wedding anniversary wishes go out to Jeremy and April Childers on June 27, Larry and Jane Swearengin on June 28, Zach and Shenna Riner on June 28 and Chris and Kristi Wilson on June 29.
