Glasscock withdraws recount request

The chairman of the Morgan County Commission is backing off his request to have a recount in the race where he finished fourth.

John Glasscock had asked for a recount after he said he was concerned about electronic errors in the voting machines. Glasscock finished fourth in the GOP primary behind Revenue Commissioner Amanda Scott, Somerville Mayor Ray Long and County Commissioner Don Stisher. Scott and Long will meet in a runoff July 13.

Glasscock had questioned his 11 percent vote total, saying he’d been approached by many people saying they supported him. His request came on the heels of third-place Republican gubernatorial candidate Tim James’ request for a state-wide recount. Morgan County’s recount yielded 12 additional votes for James and prompted Glasscock, who would have had to pay for his recount, to reconsider his request.
