Falkville High earns FFA honors

Ashley Holmes of the Falkville FFA Chapter was named the State Winner in the Wildlife Production and Management Proficiency Award at the Alabama State FFA Convention. Her application will be submitted to the National FFA Organization with the opportunity to advance as a National Finalist. Her efforts include deer herd management under the supervision of her Father. Holmes was also awarded the Mindy Stringer Memorial Scholarship recognizing her efforts for academics, FFA involvement, and supervised agricultural experience. The scholarship is sponsored by the Mindy Stringer family in honor of the late Mindy Stringer who served as a former State FFA Officer. Ashley is joined by her advisor Shane Bryan.
Cody Smith of the Falkville FFA Chapter was named the winner in Forest Management and Products Proficiency at the Alabama State FFA Convention. Smith was awarded for his efforts and experience working for Smith Logging of Falkville. His application will advance to the National FFA with the opportunity of being named a National Finalist.
The Falkville FFA Chapter was selected by a committee to receive one of the top five Chapter Awards given to the top five Chapters at the Alabama FFA Convention. This award is based on the chapter’s program of activities, student work experience, chapter service and program innovation. Their application will be submitted to the National FFA organization with the chance for national recognition. Mary Grace Ward, chapter secretary, received the award on behalf of the Falkville FFA Chapter.
Robert Summerford of the Falkville FFA Chapter was recently awarded the M.K. Heath Animal Health Award presented at the 81st Alabama FFA Convention in Montgomery. The award is presented to the student who demonstrates outstanding animal health practices on his/her farm operation. Summerford manages beef cattle at his farm in Falkville. He is joined by the Alabama State Veterinarian, Dr. Tony Frazier. The Alabama State Veterinarian Association sponsored the event.
Robert Summerford of the Falkville FFA Chapter was awarded second place in the State Beef Production Proficiency at the 81st Alabama FFA State Convention. Robert was awarded for his efforts in managing 100 head of beef cattle. He is joined by his FFA advisor Shane Bryan.
Tyler Tucker of the Falkville FFA Chapter was awarded third in the Specialty Animal Production Proficiency at the 81st Alabama FFA convention. Tucker is a sophomore at Falkville and was awarded for the management he displays in his goat operation. He is joined by his FFA advisor Shane Bryan.
The Falkville FFA Chapter was awarded recognition for having 100 percent of their students serve as FFA members. Only about 10 chapters from across the state were able to accomplish this. Mary Grace Ward, chapter secretary, received the award on behalf of the Falkville FFA Chapter.
The Falkville FFA Forestry team placed fourth out of 12 teams at the Alabama FFA State Forestry Contest. The team had to demonstrate skill and knowledge in the Forestry industry through tree measurement, topographic map interpretation, timber stand improvement, compass and pacing, and tree ID. The contest is sponsored by the Alabama Forestry Association. Team members are (L-R) Katy Guyse, Tyler Tucker, Tyler Boyer, Zack Garrison, and Seth Pillow. Their FFA advisor is Shane Bryan.
The Falkville FFA Nursery Landscape team placed second out of 12 teams at the Alabama FFA State Convention. The contest consisted of plant ID, pruning, landscape design, customer relations, plant disorders, and equipment maintenance. Team members are (L-R) Garrett James, Tyler Saint, Crystal Morris and Ashley Holmes. Their advisor is Shane Bryan.
The Falkville FFA Ag Mechanics Team placed fourth in the state at the 81st Alabama FFA Convention. The team had to demonstrate knowledge and abilities in the areas of small engines, construction, welding, plumbing, and integrated pest management. Team members are (L-R) Blain Legg, Travis Blankenship, Justin Jacobs, and Robert Summerford. Their advisor is Shane Bryan.
