High schools awarding diplomas to graduates
Hartselle High School will award diplomas to members of its 2010 graduating class a few days earlier than usual this year.
It will conduct graduation exercises for approximately 208 seniors May 21 at 7 p.m. in J.P. Cain Stadium. Morgan County High schools will follow with graduation programs May 24 and 25.
Class members with grade point averages of 4.0 or above will receive special recognition. They will receive commemorative medallions and be first in line to receive their diplomas. Addresses will be given by co-valedictorians Alex Paulsen and Allie Shelton. The welcome will be given by Bonnie Pike, class president.
Class members will assemble in the Hartselle Junior High gymnasium at 5:45 p.m. and will march from there to the football playing field, preceded by faculty and administrative staff. A practice run will be conducted May 20 at 4 p.m.
Diplomas will be presented by Principal Jeff Hyche. Assisting him will be Superintendent Dr. Mike Reed, Assistant Principals Bob Young and Joe Weaver and Counselor Kenny Lopez.
Falkville High School
Falkville High School will award diplomas to 48 members of its 2010 senior class during graduation exercises in Tom Drake Gym May 24 at 7:30 p.m.
In addition, Earlene Harvey Morris, whose high school career was stopped short of graduation by the Great Depression in 1933, will receive the 49th diploma. It will be awarded by class members Hillary Bumpus, Breanna Dean and Kim Smith.
Ashley Holmes, valedictorian, and Justin Jacobs and Blake Wilhite, co-salutatorians, will have speaking parts on the program. Holmes will also give the welcome address as president of the class and Morgan Morrow will present a memorial in memory of the late Emily Robbins, a class member who passed away when she was a junior.
Diplomas will be presented by Principal Sue Wood. Assisting her will be Keith Wilemon, assistant principal and Ken James, counselor.
Priceville High School
Graduation exercises for Priceville High School‘s 95 seniors will be conducted May 24, at 7:30 p.m. in Priceville Football Stadium.
The program will feature William Broadway, principal of Spain Park High School in Hoover as guest speaker. Also speaking will be Taylor Teague and Brently Nelson, co-valedictorians, and Dalton Lorance, salutatorian.
Class president Clay Anne Gautney will lead the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag and welcome guests. The invocation will be given by senior Anna Haden and three other class members, Mitchell Bazzel, Sarah Lancaster and Jonathan Thigpen, will entertain with a song.
Principal Guy Bowling will award diplomas with the assistance of William Johnson, assistant principal, and Carmen Munger, class sponsor.
Brewer High School
Brewer High School will conduct graduation exercises for approximately 200 members of the 2010 senior class May 25 at 7:30 p.m. in James R. Tucker Stadium. In the event of inclement weather, the program will be conducted in Randolph Ryan Gym.
Special recognition will be given to Allison Freeman, valedictorian and Jessi Mann and Molly Mahan, co-valedictorians. All three will give speeches. Comments will also be made by seven other seniors who achieved a top 10 academic ranking in their class.
Diplomas will be presented by Principal Cliff Booth. He will be assisted by Lee Willis and Robbie Elliott, assistant principals.
Danville High School
Danville High School will conduct graduation exercises for approximately 63 members of its 2010 senior class May 25 at 7:30 p.m. in Smith-Owens Stadium.
Valedictorian Tara Wimberley and Salutatorian Kimmie Thomason will have speaking parts on the program and Principal Gilmer Ellis will award diplomas.
