Funeral for James Doyle Walker, 80, of Hartselle was Fri., Feb. 26, at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Edwin Walker officiating.
Burial was in Antioch Cemetery.
Mr. Walker died Wed., Feb. 24, 2010, at Hartselle Medical Center. He was born Jan. 8, 1930, in Morgan County to Carl Conrad Walker and Lizzie Velma Dean Walker. He was a graduate of Cotaco High School and Florence State Teachers College. He received a masters degree from Montevallo. He also attended the University of Mississippi and did post-graduate work at Auburn University. He taught at Tuscumbia High School, Danville High School, Morgan County High School and served as principal at Flint Elementary School. He retired in 1988 from Hartselle High School. He was a member of the Morgan County Retired Teachers Association where he served as treasurer for a number of years. He also served as treasurer of the Morgan County Teachers’ Federal Credit Union. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Dorothy Grubbs and Ileene Abercrombie.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Faye Couey Walker of Hartselle; a son, William Glenn Walker and wife Jan of Hartselle; three grandsons, William Glenn Walker Jr. and Michael John Walker, both of Nashville, Tenn. and Matthew David Walker of Hartselle.
Pallbearers were grandsons, cousins and nephews.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the physicians and staff at Hartselle Medical Center, Decatur General Hospital and Summerford Nursing Home for their dedication and care during Mr. Walker’s illness. The support of friends and family has been overwhelming and sincerely appreciated.
