Defending champs struggle on road

Hartselle, the defending state champions in Class 5A, struggled during a recent road swing through Baldwin County.
In four games - all losses - the Tigers were outscored 44-25 and lost a pair of one-run games to drop to 1-9 on the season.
Hartselle lost to Daphne 10-0, Spanish Fort 9-2, Fairhope 7-6 and Robertsdale 18-7 during the weekend.
Robertsdale and Hartselle combined for 35 hits before Robertsdale pulled out the win with a late rally.
Will Swann had three hits and six RBIs in the loss. Logan Cain added three hits and three RBIs for the Tigers.
Against Fairhope, Hartselle had runners on first and second with one out in the top of the seventh inning before Tony Bucera sealed the win by getting the final two outs on a pickoff and a strikeout.
Ardmore 11, Priceville 4
Justin West had a 2-run homer in Priceville’s 11-4 loss to Ardmore.
Dalton Lorance added a pair of hits for the Bulldogs in the loss.
Ardmore scored seven runs in the seventh inning to pick up the win.
Priceville 11, East Lawrence 1
Priceville’s Dalton Lorance limited East Lawrence to just one run as Priceville picked up an easy win over the Eagles.
The Bulldogs got two hits each from Ryan Madewell, Andrew Starkey, Tyler Croft and Clint Barthel
Fairview 6, Danville 4
Corry Gillies had three hits, while Cole Veazey and Matthew Vest added two hits each in Danville’s loss to Fairview.
Veazey had a homer for the Hawks, while Vest drove in a run and finished with two doubles.
Danville 8, West Morgan 7
Thomas Russell earned the win on the mound for Danville Thursday against West Morgan.
Russell also finished with two hits and scored a pair of runs. Matthew Vest also scored two runs in the win.
Priceville 10, Brewer 0
Tyler Croft struck out five as Priceville shutdown Brewer in the first game of a doubleheader.
Clint Barthel drove in four runs after finishing with two singles and a 3-run homer for the Bulldogs. Andrew Starkey added two hits in the win.
Priceville 12, Brewer 2
Justin West and Ryan Madewell had two hits each for Priceville in a 12-2 victory over Brewer in the second game.
Tyler Croft had a double for the Bulldogs.
Wesley St. John earned the win after striking out four.
